The Bhutan Cricket Twenty20 Final Between Bhutan Telecom and Friend’s United saw a scintillating starts till the last wickets of Friend’s United felt, crowd gathered during the course of match and there were cheers all around for the young and smart cricketer of Bhutan Telecom. Bhutan Telecom clinch the Champion Trophy from Friend’s United after their brilliant display in the field, they outplayed Friend’s United in batting as well as bowling restricting a good line and length.

The toss was a crucial in the bright sunny day and Bhutan Telecom did not hesitate to Bat first, Friend’s United bowler worked really hard to take the wicket of Bhutan Telecom but their extras which they conceded was the main reason for losing the Cup.

As Many as 50 plus runs were give extras to Bhutan Telecom Innings of 149 runs, opener Tashi fluent timing and focused steer the runs from the tired Friend’s United Bowler, Friend’s United pulled out early wicket when Kencho Tshering Stuck to dismiss Jigme Singye from other end and tow overs later to dismiss Skipper Dorji which sent hard hitter supprit, his batting seems natural and a good striker of the ball, both the batsmen in the crease took full control of the innings hitting beautiful lofted four above the fence couple of times.
when things were moving quite nicely for them with 75 runs partnership for third wickets D.S.Gurung trapped Tashi Lbw after making 31, damaged has been done by the time Tashi was out to Pavilion, With Supprit still in the Middle, Bhutan Telecom dressing rooms was all in relaxed, just two overs remaining for the Bhutan Telecom innings to be completed and supprit on 42, another 4 overs the fence and two takes him to 48, shiva the other batsmen couldn’t give strike to supprit and was left on 48 not out which otherwise would have been a well deserved half century. Bhutan Telecom at the end set a mammoth target of 150 for Friend’s United to chase. Kencho Tshering was the peak of the bowler taking two wickets.
Friend’s United after their lose from Bhutan Telecom in the League match are alls et to win the Trophy this time, with regular opener Tshering Dorji and Tshering Tashi opening for the team, runs were hard to come from the well organized Bhutan Telecom bowlers as they restricted extras and keep bowling line and length.

Their opening record in the tournament has been brilliant but this time they couldn’t take their partnership as Tshering Tashi was Clean Bowled by Chencho Dorji for 7 runs and Tshering Dorji was joined by Thinley Jamtsho whoi hit three consecutive fours and was tempted to go further before he was caught of leading edge, his 14 runs in 6 balls lowered Friend’s United Runs Rates a bit, Tshering Dorji was caught later in the next overs to sent 4 top order batsmen of Friend’s United.

kipper D.S.Gurung was playing beautiful and hit two fours for his 19 runs before giving a simple catch in the log off. With the depart of 5 top order batsmen in quick succession, Friend’s United hope of clinching the Trophy was fading away and in the Field Bhutan Telecom were literally celebrating, rest of the Friend’s United Batsmen couldn’t contribute even when hard hitter Tshering Tashi and Ugyen tenzin who were batting when the required run rates was 16 runs per over.

Few ball were dispatched in the boundary but medium Pacer Thinley Tenzin with his brilliant bowling performance throughout the Tournament rattled the tail enders, Friend’s United were all out 129 runs and Bhutan Telecom wins by 21 and are crown champion of the Bhutan Cricket Twenty20 Tournament.
Thinley Tenzin was the peak of the bowler amongst Bhutan Telecom as he picked fours wickets in the end well supported by Supprit who apparent was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant show both with bat and bowl although there were three or four contender from both the team with Tashi from Bhutan Telecom, Thinley Tenzin from Bhutan Telecom and D.S.Gurung from Friend’s United.

The Tournament attracted huge numbers of Crowds and the Crowd has been fantastic throughout the tournament as they cheer and enjoyed the Beautiful Game of Cricket Played in the tiny Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan, they were given a real treat in the final with sun equally tasking the favor for a wonderful match and the Batting Performance of Supprit and Tashi with Manoj Adhikari the Commentator adding flavor as the match progress in the middle with some fun stuffs with cricket and Cricketer, which was a joy and a memorable Final.

Media team from Bhutan Broadcasting Service the National Radio and Television of Bhutan were all equipped for coverage and TV show for Cricket Game later next week.
The presentation ceremony saw graced by the Joint Secretary of Bhutan Olympic Committee, Mr Yonten Tharchen who is a keen of Cricket and he himself is the first Bhutanese Athlete to bring home Gold Medal in Taekwondo.

A short commentary and match summary provided to BBS
Twenty 20 cricket tournament…Organized by Bhutan Cricket Council Board
Six cricket club teams participated in the first ever twenty 20 cricket tournament organized by BCCB. The tournament started on 13th of January and concluded on 28th of January 2007. To encourage more teams to participate, the tournament was held during week ends. The teams were divided into two groups and played in league cum Knock out format. In the preliminary rounds the three teams from each group faced each other with two top teams from each group earning berth in the Semi-finals in the next round. The Six teams who participated in the tournaments are Druk 11, Friends United club, Youth 11, Kanglung Hi-fliers, Drupchu 11 and Bhutan Telecom Ltd. Group A:- Drupchu 11, Youth 11, Kanglung Hi-Fliers. Group B: - Druk 11, Friends United Club, Bhutan Telecom Ltd.
Kanglung Hi-fliers and Druk 11 qualified for semi-final from group A and Bhutan Telecom ltd. and Friends united qualified from group B. The winner of group A – Kanglung Hi-Fliers played against runners up of group B – Friends United club. Likewise winner from group B -Bhutan Telecom clashed with runners up from group a – Druk 11.
The game of cricket is still in its infancy in Bhutan but has improved a lot in terms of teams’ participation and quality of the players in its short existence. The cricket is played by players from all walks of life. Some are business men while others are civil employee; some are corporate employees while others are students; some old and some young. The cricket in Bhutan is slowly but steadily gaining momentum as it is evident from non-Bhutanese participations, for example the IMTRAT team in earlier tournaments. The Bhutan under-15 team recently got promoted to the elite group in South-east Asia backed by their strong performance in recently held under-15 international tournament, where the Bhutanese team reached the finals. Un like the tournaments held in the past, the first ever Twenty 20 cricket tournament in Bhutan saw two teams from outside Thimphu(Kanglung Hi-Fliers and Drupchu 11) participating in the tournament which made the tournament more interesting. The Bhutan Cricket also takes pride in having international umpires and match referees as well as umpires of international level.
In the recently concluded Twenty 20 cricket tournament, Bhutan Telecom Ltd. remained undefeated in four thrilling matches. They lock horns with Friends United Club in the finals. Bhutan Telecom was crowned the Champion of the first Twenty 20 cricket tournament after they defeated Friends United in the finals by 20 runs and walked away with a huge trophy and cash prize of Nu 5000 apart from individual medals. Mr Suprit of Bhutan Telecom won the man of the match and man of the series award for his excellent all round performance with the bat, ball and in fielding in the tournament.
“And the Champion is…Bhutan Telecom Ltd.” ……The small crowd erupted in cheers and nearby archery players stopped their play as the winner…no…The Champion of the first ever Twenty 20 cricket tournament was announced. It was a sweet music to the ears of BTL team and fans. A well deserved victory.
BTL team became the first victor of the twenty 20 cricket tournament. The feat was achieved by remaining undefeated in four thrilling close matches. But the journey towards getting the coveted trophy was neither easy nor smooth. It required talent, grit, resilience, team spirit and self belief to defeat the determined opponents.
The tournament was well organized and cricket fans could enjoy the live commentary from the cricket experts for the first time. There were also some incentives for the spectators to make the game more interesting…for example…when a batsmen hits the ball out of the cricket ground and into the stands, if a spectators succeeds in catching it, he is rewarded with Nu 50 for his effort.
The only problem that the organizers and the cricket enthusiast have is that there is no proper cricket ground of standard size. The current cricket ground is very small and rough but the organizers and players are hopeful that this all will change in the near future.
