Thimphu Girls Final : Dechencholing M.S.School Retained the U-19 Girls Title
Dechencholing Middle Secondary School With the Winner Trophy
Dechencholing Middle Secondary School successfully retained Thimphu School U-19 Girls Trophy after they beat Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School by 6 wickets. Yangchephug after winning the toss elected to bat first, Devika and Sonam Choden the fast bowler lead the attack for the Dechencholing School after they got both the opener Rinchen Wangmo and Karma Wangmo back to pavilion with score of 2 and 0 respectively, with the fall of another wicket in 3rd overs, Yangchenphug batsmen were forced on back foot and giving Dechencholing bowler extra bit of energy, Sonam Lhamo and Nima Zangmo shared a good 5th wicket partnership between them with 30 runs as they carved the bowler for singles and playing some good shot.

After Sonam Lhamo departed scoring 12 runs, rest of Yangchenphug bats women crumble with Sonam Choden taking wicket at regular interval, Nima Zangmo batted lonely to take the score to 73 all out in 21 overs. Had Dechencholing School not given too many extras, the target would have been half. Devika and Sonam Choden shared 4 wicket each between them. Nim Zangmo top score for Yangchenphug with 19 Runs.

Chasing an total of 73 runs on the board isn’t an easy task for the Dechencholing Batsmen and having 8 national players in the squad, Yangchenphug opening bowler Sonam Lhamo had them word hard for the runs as she keep a tight line and not giving room for the bats women to play, the fielding of Yangchenphug has been immense and they showed great athletes and caused two run out to send the Opening batsmen Dechen Wangmo who apparently was the leading run getting in the tournament back to pavilion. One good batsmen gets out and another better comes in for the Dechencholing School as Choening and Yeshi Choden showed the experienced and brought the school closer to an another title, Yeshi Choden couldn’t steer home and was caught of Sonam Lhamo.

Yangchenphug conceded 30 extras which caused them dearly and Dechencholing School cruised to victory in 8 overs. Sonam Lhamo was pick of bowler for Yangchenphu taking 2 wickets while Yeshi Choden top scored for Dechencholing School with 14 runs. “Our Girls really played well in the tournament and having to defend the title, we really worked hard in the practice, cricket really has brought glory to the school and we are really excited about it.” Said Deki Yangzom, the Custodian of Cricket for Dechencholing School.
In the Presentation ceremony, Yangchenphug Principal Madam Kesang was the chief guest along with other Teachers from Changangkha School, Changbandu School and Dechencholing School.
Sonam Darjay from Changbandu was Awarded with an special trophy for hitting the First Century in the School Tournament. He Made 119 in the semi final of the Class 5 & 6 Category played against Dechencholing School.

With this the half yearly school cricket season ended in Bhutan and the next season will soon get underway after the School Mid Term Exam. Cricket has shoot to an great height in Bhutan and with lot of young kids and school children playing, cricket will soon covered the Bhutan map.
