School Cricket Tournament Started in Paro District

After introducing school cricket in paro district three years back, the players, teacher had sigh of relief when Bhutan Cricket organized the 1st Paro District School Championship. The tournament should have been done before but due to lack of a proper playing surface and unavailability of coach to the school, we had a tough time and this year after being informed to school teacher who have attended the Level *O* BCCB Coaching course, they have initiated and worked really hard to form a Juniors U-13 Team,Said Sonam Phuntsho, the Paro District Cricket co-ordinator.

Tagu School Vs Khangkhu School Match

Six School are participating in the 5 and 6 Class Category Tournament which is being played in Rinpung Dzong Ground, subsequently a small ground. These Schools are divided into two Pool, A and B where in each pool three team will compete against other two team and the winner from the Pool will face in the Final. In the opening match played in the morning, Taju Pry School played against Khangkhu Lower Secondary School, Taju won by three wicket after Khangkhu Batted first and were all out for 68 runs. In the Second Match Played Between Drygyel Lower Secondary School and Guapel school, Gaupel won the match by 22 runs. Gaupel batted first and made 143 runs in the 20 overs match and setting a massive target. Drugyel LS School players at one time were on upper edge when their opening batsmen hit consecutive boundaries in the first over and later in second over, the runs on board read 30 for 0 after 3 overs. But when the opening batsmen departed, Gaupel bowler attacked and got wicket in regular interval. With 12 Balls and 27 runs to get, Drugyel last pair couldn’t make good use of the poor bowling attack and were eventually all out for 122 in their 20 overs.

It is really exciting for all of us to play cricket and we all are looking for a good game, said one one the players. The Teacher in concern for the school thank the BCCB and district Coaching coordinator for organizing the tournament and are looking forward in getting girls and 7 & 8 boys team after the mid-term Exam. Ugyen Dorji from BCCB was the official from the Board to grace the matches.

The Umpires and Official were all from Paro College of Education where Ugyen Dorji had two days of Umpiring Clinic with them on Thursday and Friday, in the clinic camp which was for two hours, Ugyen Dorji brief the trainees the basic of umpiring.

In both the match, extras from wide and no ball contributed nearly half the total runs for all the four teams.Tomorrow, Woochu Lower Secondary School will take on Khangkhu Lower Secondary school and in afternoon, Lango School will take on Drugyel Pry school.
