The Last Shangrila Cup Kicked off in Style
The Last Shangrila Cup 2007 Tournament kicked off in style by Gelephu District Dungpa with a straight bat from the bowling of Kokrajhar sports vice president. All the Teams were presented with traditional Khadar by the Dasho Dungpa to commemorate the first ever International Match in Bhutan.
The First Match was played between Assam XI and Sarpang XI where the spectator and the organizer saw the Battle between the two lowland teams, with Assam XI much experience sealing a comfortable victory over the Sarpang XI by 151 runs. With the Monsoon overhead, Sarpang XI Captain Kumar couldn’t resist to Field first after winning the all important toss with the outfield wet due to last night rainfall and the pitch keeping low in the beginning of the innings. The bowlers were off control as the Pitch favor the Batting side with ball coming to the bat at constant height and a boundaries in each over.
The nervous Sarpang XI boys who were playing first international tournament with a country by birth have cricket nerves into it conceded 40 runs extras in wide and no ball. The Fielding was much appreciated by huge crowd with brilliant dives and saves. All the Bowlers were received treatment for bowling bad balls from Assam Openers Sri Phiembiwwe and Sri luto Raj who put on a opening partnership of 83 runs before Sri Phiembiwwe after a brilliant Half Century was Trapped LBW by Kumar.
Sarpang XI team were jubilant to break the long partnership which took away the match from them. After the depart of Sri Phiembiwwe, he was replaced by Sri Danswanng Brahma who put on a healthy 26 runs to take the score to 100 plus ion just 14 over.
The weather turned out to be a perfect as the match progressed with overcast clouds fading away and bright sun shining over the picturesque Gelephu Sports Association Ground.
Rest of the Assam Team could only manage to add couple of runs except for the Sri Rana Brahma who negotiate with the spin and medium pace of Sarpang XI to add 22 runs. The Sarpang XI Bowler was reward towards the end where they got quick wicket with ball keeping to low and the boundary restricted by the brilliant fielding. Rajeet was the peak of the bowler for the sarpang XI with 3 runs and costing 31 runs, Tashi Tobgay and Abinnash taking two wickets respectively. Assam XI were all out for 183 runs in 33 over after a good fight by the Determined Sarpang XI.

Sarpang XI Chase of 184 runs in allocated 40 overs were short sighted as the Assam XI Openers restricted the flow of runs and removed Both the openers quickly, Tickei Brahma of Assam XI fired the right line and length to removed the openers without making a good start, sarpang XI batsmen had hard time piercing the fielder with bowler bowling a tight line. None of the Sarpang Batsmen Could caused damage to the target as they were bowled out for 32 all out in 15 overs. Tickei Brahma was peak of bowler for assam XI with 3 wickets conceding 5 runs with two maidens, Lutu Raj Brahma excell Assam XI winning by 151 runs and having a good chance of making to the final of the Last Sangrila Cup 2007. Sri Phiembiwwe was awarded man of the match for his brilliant 51 runs.
