The match that the crowd has been expecting for a long time when the last Shangrila Cup was announced that it will be held in the Gelephu District of Sarpang, Assam XI took on Thimphu XI today, The match turned out to be an exciting towards the end as Assam XI were just 13 runs for the victory with two wicket in the hand, spinner operating from the both end and couples of LBW shout crowds just loved it, the home crowd cheering the Thimphu XI Team as they took a wicket of Assam team leaving just a wicket for them to win a contesting match, a huge six and a four by the number 11 batsmen heroji of the sushil sharma bowling brought down the runs to a clse one, a runs off the next two balls leveled the score and a delight Assam XI Dressing room jumped in joy.
Thimphu XI after winning the toss elected to Bat first in the Gloomy weather condition, Thimphu XI started well off in the beginning as Bikash Sharma Luitel attack from the first ball he faced, he hit a four and six in the first over to take the score to 10 runs with sanjeeven Raj Gurung kept silent in the non striker end, he was given no rooms to play as the bowler kept a good line and length.Thimphu XI Batting look promising in the beginning when Bikash was hitting over the boundaries, after his depart for 14 runs, Tashi the regular number three batsmen walked to take on the Quickie Assam openers, he faced his innings with straight bat, hit couple of fours and anchor the innings with Sanjeeven who was out the next ball after facing 10 balls and without bothering the score.
Tashi was then supported by Skipper Jigme Singye who hit a straight four of the first ball he faced and look dangerous but was soon sent back to pavilion after a good catch in the gully region. Left hander Sonam Tobgay after his brilliant partnership with Skipper the other day couldn’t make much progress when he was put under great pressure by the Assam Bowler bowling the perfect line and length and at times firing with high short pitch ball causing him the problem, he depart scoring 5 runs.
The bowling and fielding attack of Assam XI has been excellent through out the match with good commitment from the boundary fielder and cover region. The Thimphu XI Batsmen had tough time piercing the Assam Fielder. Thimphu XI innings was held tight by the Pinch hitter Thinley Jamtsho who most of the times came dancing down the pitch and hitting it over the boundary for four runs, his 29 runs deserved the applauds of the team mate and the crowds.
All the bowler did a pretty good job restricting the flows of runs but the 26 runs extras given them helped the Thimphu XI team total of 129 all out in 33 overs, the tail ender contributed around 20 odds runs to set a competitive total at the end. Rana Brahma was the peak of the bowler with 3 wickets from the Assam XI taking the crucial wickets of Tashi. Heroje Brahma and Lutu Raj Brahma shared 2 wickets each respectively.
Assam openers were blazing on fire when they started their run chase as Paremswar Brahma and Lutu Brahma fired successive fours of the Thinley Jamtsho second overs when he suffered a nervous breakdown and the ball going wide every times, his second over cost 15 runs and the Assam XI quickly moved to 29 runs in 3rd overs. On the other end Dilip Kumar was attack too as he was driven four of back foot by Paremswar, Dilip Kumar came back strongly to bowled Lutu Raj in his second over, unusual bowling change saw Tandin Wangchuk replacing Thinley Jamtsho after his Expensive Second overs to removed Paremswar caught by Dilip Kumar Subba in the deep fine leg. The Thimphu XI players were excited as they know than the danger man has gone, sooner or later Skipper Jigme Singye Introduced his spinners from both the end as they Assam Team were going strongly at 65 for the loss of three wickets in 13 overs.
Spinners did their work and removed the middle order Assam Batsmen when the wicket was slow and ball not bouncing high to trapped three Assam Batsmen. At the score of 75, Deve Brahma played the heroic role as he rescued his team from 7 down to take the score past 100, his batting showed temperament and skills, he almost took the Assam to victory singled handedly with his powerful pull and cut shot that fetched him boundries, Jickie Brahma well supported him befoe he departed for 12 runs, once the score was 100 up for the Assam, Thimphu XI put extra pressure as the Skipper Jigme Singye Himself Introduced and restricted the flow of Runs, he soon got the prize wicket of Deva Brahma when he attempted to go for a big one, Deve Brahma 31 runs innings gave Assam team closer to the Victory and was adjudged the Man of the Match by the Umpires and Match Referee.
At the score of 117, Heroji Brahma the man who hit the winning runs when his team needs 13 runs to win hit huge six straight over the bowler head and a fours next ball. The match turned out in favor of Assam when the score was tied, Sushil Sharma Luitel was nervous as the Heroji Brahma shone with bat. The Crowd going in excitement as the match was well balanced and both the team Dressing Room in tensed. Towards the End, Assam XI edged past the Thimphu XI winning by one wicket.
