Double Blow for Sarpang XI

battingSarpang XI suffered Double Blow today as the Thimphu XI Thrashed the home team after the Home Team Skipper Kumar elected to field first after winning the toss against the experienced Thimphu XI which comprises of mostly Under 15 National Squad who were runner’s up in the Last ACC Under 15 Challenge Cup 2006 held in Bangkok, Thailand. The Thimphu XI started well off in the beginning with Bikash Sharma and Sanjeevan Raj Gurung attacking the Sarpang Opening Bowler, both the batsmen ran between the wicket very well thus putting pressure on the fielder and they dispatched the full toss and loose deliveries to boundaries, Bikash Sharma Luital was playing well when a ball which kept low bowled him out for nine. Tashi then along with Sanjeevan put on a 63 runs 1st wickets partnership where they played with the merit of the bowl, there are couples of beautiful cover drive and hook shot which fetch all four runs for the team.

running between wicketsSarpang XI fielder were kept busy and had shed sweet a lot as they pushed for singles and twos which nearly cost their wickets had there been direct hit from the fielder towards the stump. Tashi played the anchor role by rotating the strike and punishing the loose deliveries delivered by the Sarpang Bowler, extras runs kept adding to the totals as the bowlers kept bowling wides and giving no ball and have not improved from the previous game played against Assam where they conceded 40 runs in extras. Sanjeevan played his opening role with some classic back foot drives and cut.

cutshotTheir partnership couldn’t last long as Tashi who was batting with confident and ease on 32 runs was trapped LBW by Puran, the dismissal of Tashi Brought some smiles on the face of Sarpang players but was short lived when the Skipper Jigme Singye leading by example crafted his knock of 55 which have 1 six, three fours and two 3s, his innings showed why he has been the successful captain during the ACC Under-15 Challenge Cup 2006 where he led Bhutan to final, his innings saw the fluent drives, lofted shot in the mid wickets area, back foot cover drive and pull shot, the spectator were literally entertained by his flamboyant batting and with Sonam Tobgay on other end, left hand and right handed caused the problem for Sarpang XI Skipper Kumar trying to set the field, their partnership of 65 caused the most damage to the Sarpang XI bowlers, the fielding has been an excellent through out the match for the Sarpang XI with brilliant saves and dives all round, Sonam Tobgay did build his innings with singles and twos with 2 fours as he worked the ball in gap, Jigme Singye brought his half century with a fours and was going well when after that milestone but a risky singles runs caused him run out and was out on 55, the crowd applauds his innings and so is his team mate.

Soanm Tobgay then carried on the batting along with Tandin Wangchuk who played his part as the pinch hitter where he quick fired 23 runs from 16 balls, his innings saw 4 fours of superb timing and placement before he was Caught by Jigme of Kumar ball. The rest of the batsmen could contribute a healthy runs for their team total of 210. The Thimphu XI were all out in 32.3 overs.

good shotSarpang XI were determined for a good fight after heavy defeat on the opening match against the Assam XI, but their opening batsmen could do nothing to the experienced Thimphu XI bowler as they couldn’t resist the sheer pace and line of the Thinley Jamtsho and Dilip Kumar Subba, Both the openers were quickly removed without ticking the scoreboard. Skipper Kumar walk in to challenge the pace and tackle the bowlers as he guided the balls in gap and sneaking runs. He was rock solid and guarded his wickets as he played 51 balls for his well crafted 21 runs where he showed that his team could bat as well, he was supported by Tshering Yeshi just for few overs.

divingThe Batting performance of the Sarpang XI were much improved from the first match as they guarded their wickets and let the Thimphu XI bowler earn for it. Thimphu XI Skipper introduced spinners from both end which warped up the innings of the Sarpang XI, offie Tanding Wangchuk grabbed 4 wickets and sushil sharma from Town end chipped on three wickets.

man of the matchThe Sarpang Batsmen just walk in and out of the crease as the trap was well planted by the Thimphu XI skipper. None of the Sarpang XI batsmen could cause problems to the Thimphu XI side as there are as many as 6 duck out, they were eventually all out for 50 runs in 19 overs.With two defeats in a row, Sarpang XI is determined side for a better performance in the near future.
