Thimphu : Bhutan’s U19 women’s national team has already started preparing in Thimphu for the forthcoming ACC U19 Women’s Challenge Cup to be held in Singapore next year with the supervision of Mr. D S Gurung, National Youth Coach along with other local coaches. Eight weeks programme have been set as a trail camp for selection of 20 women’s cricketers and also as a modification of techniques on cricket fundamentals which will be monitored by the local coaches but gradually the training will go intense said the national coach. Bhutanese women’s have already showed their ability of playing cricket in the international arena by ranking 6 position in the ACC U19 Women’s Challenge Cup in Chiangmai, Thailand 2008 and 8th position in ACC T20 Women’s Championship in Malaysia this year. Bhutan the only team in ACC competitions were players are aging from 13 -16 years and have won 5 matches in two competitions.

When we first played in ACC U19 most of the players from other countries were elder and experience than us but after winning few matches we know it is all about preparation not the age, said the captain Pema. Cricket amongst girls has just been 2 years but the interest is growing faster. BCCB conducting U19 women’s school campionship every year but this year because of the interest showed by girls BCCB has also conducted U16 school tournament in Thimphu and Sarpang districts to increase the numbers in playing and also to give opportunity to those willing to play cricket.

Most of the girls sacrifices their winter vacation for trail camp which will go on to the end of January 2010. This is something what we are looking for and we are ready to work hard, said local coach Sonam Tobgay. Bhutan aim to be the no.1 women’s team in ACC ranking in near future with the procedures they have set to become; however due to lack of facilities it might take time but the interest among girls will stay alive.

U16 Boy’s National Team Trail camp will be commencing from 19th of December 2009 in Thimphu under the guidance of Coach Tshering Dorji, Ugyen Dorji and Tobgay Wangchuk. The camp is open for every one, interested cricketer can register to board lastest by 17th December 2009.
