Thimphu Under-19 School Tournament Updates

In The on going Thimphu Under-19 School School Tournament, The Semi Final and the Final Match will be played this Saturday and Sunday as Yangchenphu Middle Secondary School, Dechecholing Middle Secondary School, Khadrapchu Middle Secondary School and Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School will challenge for the Cup.

Under-19 School Tournaments Kicks off In Thimphu District

Thimphu Under-19 School Tournament for Boys Kicked off Last Sunday when Dechencholing Middle Secondary School took on Lugtenzampa Middle Secondary School. Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School and Khadrapchu Middle Secondary being the Other Two School Participating school.

In the First Match Played on Sunday, Yangchenphu M Secondary School defeated Dechencholing Middle Secondary by 3 Wickets after Dechencholing School were bowled out for 63 Runs in their Allocated 25 Overs. The Matches are played in the Dechencholing School ground every Saturday and Sunday.

In the On Going UA Twenty20 Coronation Cup Played in Ugyen Academy School. UA Lions Lost to Bajo Higher Secondary School by Two Wickets and in afternoon Match played between CNR Vs UA Tiger, CNR Managed 99 runs in 13 overs and UA Lions got their falling 6 wicket to take victory. The Match was witness by the Punakha Superintendent of Police, Bajo Higher secondary School Principal and Ugyen Academy School Teacher.

Sarpang Dzongkhag had another second year of school cricket tournament where eight school from various part participated. The Tournament consist of Girls Category, Class 7 & 8 Category and Class 5 & 6 Category where around 300 Kids Participated for the School Glory. The Cricket is yearly development program for the school to increase the numbers of participating and promote in the school. The Over whelming support from the school and visit by ACC Development Officer Roger Binny embarked a sensational waves of cricket enthusiastic in the sarpang Dzongkhag. With the recuirtment of Two Local Coaches in the Sarpang Dzongkhag, cricket has been an active sport in the dzongkhag.

In the Final of Class 7 and 8 Category (Under 19) played last sunday, Gelpehu Lower secondary won by 3 wickets chasing a target of 96 runs. In the Juniour Category (Class 5-6 Category), Pelrithang Primary School defeated Sarpang Lower Secondary School. In the Girls Category, Gelpehu Lower Secondary School was champion beating Sarpang Lower Secondary School.

Top player from the school tournament will be selected where they will undergo training camp later in the month of july for the selection of National Players in Various Age group category.

The Final has been a successful run for the Dechencholing School Girls Team as they overcome to win the Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School by 10 runs in a tense situation where lungtenzampa nearly came on top. Dechencholing Middle Secondary School batted first in fine sunny afternoon after winning the toss and their batsmen could not provide a good starts as Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School got their first break through through….. clean bowled ..Dechecholing Opener, Lungtenzamap Girls could not have effort to give wides and extras which tick the scoreboard every overs. The Bowlers had tough time maintaining the line and length as they score kept ticking with extras every over.

Dechencholing School were all out for 77 Runs in 17 Overs, a hefty total in the End.

In reply, lungtenzampa middle secondary school opener couldn’t do much to tick the score but the extras and wides provided runs every each over. Dechecnholing Middle secondary school manage to get quick wickets every after alternative overs to put Lungtenzampa in back foot. With 28 runs to win from 7 overs and a wicket remaining for lungtenzampa, Dechencholing School made every possible to get the last wicket but their bowler force wides and extras to put the score to 68 for loss of 9 wickets. Tension mounted in Dechecholing School Team as their Teachers and Student cheers for the last wicket. At one time, Dechecholing School Teachers were literally Jumping in the Boundary Road in disbelief as their Bowler couldn’t get the last wicket instead force wides. Towards the End, Dipeka finally manage to bowled out the last wicket and gave them victory in the end. Dechecholing School Supporter rush towards the field to congratulate the Girls, Teacher jump in Joy as their school girls won a tense match.

“It was pretty a tense game with just 9 runs to win for lungtenzampa and a wicket for Our School, i was just waiting for the Dipeka to bowl a good ball which fetch the wicket” Exclaimed Proud Coach Sonam Tobgay after a Thriller win. Lungtenzampa Coach Tashi said “it was a close game towards the end, had we not given extras, we would have won the match, the girls played well but the winner deserve applauds for their victory”.

The Tournament was successful endeavor for the Bhutan Cricket with Girls taking Interest and enjoying the game at the highest Level. The Director of Games and Sport Division, Ministry of Education was dazzled by the high team spirit shown by the Girls in the field. “It has been my first ever watching a cricket game played by our Bhutanese Girls in High Spirit and With Enthusiasm, the winner deserve the applauds and loser showed great team spirit and high note though they lost, it is good to see that our girls are taking the game seriously”, he also thank Bhutan Cricket Council Board for organizing such kind of games for the school student.

In The Class 7 and 8 Category Final, Changankha Lower Secondary defeated Jigme Losel Lower Secondary by 3 wicket to crown themselves the Champion. Jigme Losel Lower secondary made 122 runs in in 15 overs with blistering batting performance by Skipper raj who made 48 Runs with three huge sixes. Raj took the charge on the young bowler of the Changankha School as he wack the hard tennis ball over the park and few fours off side.

School Tournament Reach Final

The on going Thimphu School Tournament reach into the final which will be played on 17th May and 18th May 2008. In The Sub- Junior Category, Jigme Losel Primary School and Changbandu Primary School Reached the Final. Jigme Losel Thrashed Lungtenzampa Team in the First Semi-Final which was played on 10th May 2008 and Changbandu Winning Streak continued as they outplayed Zilukha in High Scoring Match where Changbandu set a target of 176 for Zilukha Sub Junior team. Zilukha Team were all out for 18 Runs.

In the Junior Category, Dechencholing Middle Secondary School Defeated Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School by 60 Runs to book a place in the Final.

The First Final will be played for sub - junior level where Jigme Losel School Will face Changbandu School and later in the afternoon, Junior Category Final will be played where Dechencholing Middle Secondary School will Face Changankha Lower Secondary School.

On 18th May, Girls Final will be played where Dechecholing Middle Secondary School will Face Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School. The Final Will be a Grand Tournament where Director of Department of Youth and Sports will Grace the Occasion along with Bhutan Cricket Chief Executive Officer and Board Member. Each Participant School will be Represented by Their Respected Head Teacher and Parents of the Players.

Gelephu Higher Secondary School Lifts The Trophy

glhsGelephu Higher Secondary School became the first school to win the first ever school cricket tournament held in the sarpang dzongkhag today when they beat arch rival Gelephu Lower Secondary School by 107 runs during the final of Sarpang Dzongkhag Under-19 School Tournament where 4 teams from Sarpang Dzongkhag Participated in month long tournament organized by Sarpang Dzongkhag in association with Bhutan Cricket.

gelephulowerbattingThe Final match showed some uncertainty amongst the organizer and the school players with the monsoon rain throughout the week, cricket enthusiasts and the players praying for a favorable weather condition on the final. The Final match was delayed for an hour due to rain as it kept drizzling at the start, at 9:30 am the rain fade away leaving a gloomy weather condition and the outfield still wet for the match, the umpire had a closer look and the match started at 10 am in the morning.

Rain Interrupted Sarpang School Tournament

Sarpang District under-19 school tournament opening match was hit by rain after Sarpang middle secondary school winning the toss and electing to bat were bowled out for 141 in 25 over with Karma Tenzin top scorer with 34 runs to add to the massive 61 runs extras that Gelephu higher secondary school conceded, Tashi Tobgay, right arm spin bagging 4 wickets in 6 over was the peak of bowler.

Gelephu Higher Secondary School opening batsmen were fired up some blistering shot when the rain interrupted after 3 over with 30 runs on the board, the match couldn’t be completed as the rain keep on hitting the ground and umpires calling a draw. Both the team shared a point each. A disappointment in Gelephu Higher Secondary School dressing room.

The Second match was played on the 20th of May with Norbuling Middle Secondary School taking on the Perlithang lower secondary school, Norbuling Middle Secondary School batting first after winning the toss were all out for a mere 62 runs with Ugyen Tshering top scoring with 22 runs. Pelrithang bowler did impress with superb line and length and breaking partnership when things were going well for Norbuling Middle Secondary School, Yogesh bagged 3 wickets for 3 runs and Talman bagging 2 for 8 runs.

A target of 62 runs on the board looks easy for the Pelrithang Schools when Norbuling fought back taking crucial wickets and putting pressure on the Pelrithang Batsmen, the bowler took the toll when they conceded far more extras which changed the course of the match, Yogesh the peak of the bowler coming to rescue after Pelrithang were 8 wicket down and 15 runs to win, he crafted the victory with 12 runs not out and Kesang Wangchuk the number 8 batsmen supporting him. Karma Lekden was peak of the bowler with 4 wickets in 6 over conceding just 15 runs. Norbuling Bowler conceded 38 runs extras. Pelrithang Middle Secondary School winning by 2 wickets in the end. The matches are played every Saturday and Sunday.The Tournament is organized by Sarpang Dzongkhag in association with Bhutan Cricket.

Trophy_DisplayedThe Month Long Thimphu District Schools cricket tournament ended with Motithang Higher Secondary School the winner in the Senior category and Yangchenphu Higher Secondary School champion in the Junior Category, the Tournament which is Organized by the Games and Sports Division in association with Bhutan cricket had had 4 schools from the Thimphu District participating.

Great_attemptThe Tournament is divided into Senior Category and Junior Category where class 9 & 10 are group into Senior and class 7 & 8 into Junior Category. The Tournament started on the 22nd April 2007 and played final on 20th May 2007, all the matches were played in the Thimphu Cricket ground. The Schools participating are Motithang Higher Secondary School, Yangchenphu Higher Secondary School, Khasadrapchu Middle Secondary School and Dechencholling Middle Secondary School. With Experience players in the Yangchenphu and Motithang, they edge past the Khasadrapchu and Dechencholling School in the final.

Pema BowlingThe Tournament saw the emergence of new talents from all the school as they were literally exposed to the cricketing world with brilliant batting and bowling performance shown by the school players. The Final match saw the tense situation in both the category as in the senior category, Motithang after winning the toss elected to bat first in perfect sunny weather in the morning to put on a decent total for the experienced Yangchenphu School filled with most of the under-15 national players.
