Under-19 Boys Tournaments Ends in Thimphu

2009 Under-19 Boys Winner Nima Higher Secondary School

Thimphu School Cricket came to end with the final of Under-19 Boys Tournaments ended as Nima Higher Secondary School won by 10 runs in a close final played on 4th October against the stronger opposing Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School played in Changlimithang Ground. Nima Higher Secondary School batted first and with a bunch of Jumior National players in the team, they managed to make 118 runs all out in 21.5 Overs, lead by skipper Kencho Norbu and assist by Pinch hitter Thinley Tenzin with the Destroyer Kami doing all the damaged, nima school had not the best start of the tournament as their leading run scorer Kencho fell in the first over to be sent back to pavilion without scoring a single runs but they have plenty left in Thinley Tenzin and other batsmen, Thinley lead the team to an comparative score of 118 after the other batsmen collapse to the brilliant bowling attack of the Yangchenphug School. Kami top the score with 29 runs and Thinley Tenzin with 18 Runs, Dechen was the pick of the bowler for Yangchenphug taking 5 wickets.

After losing the first match against Nima HS School, Yangchenphug bounce back with 162 runs defeat against the last year champion “Lungtenzampa” yesterday. “I couldn’t believe it that we won the match easily against the champion” said the Yangchenphug Captain Dechen Wangchuk. Toss won by Lungtenzampa and elected to field first. On the wet pitch and with slow outfield two openers Kinley Wangchuk and Captain Dechen played exceptional inning adding 32 runs opening partnership when Dechen at 17 runs was caught at point by Vijay on Amrit’s bowl. Yangchenphug lost two quick wickets to build pressure on themselves but Bishnu played a super role to boost in-formed batsmen Kinley to score 69runs were Bishnu along with Karma added 36 & 24 runs to went on to amass the big total. Thimphu Girls Final : Dechencholing M.S.School Retained the U-19 Girls Title

Dechencholing Middle Secondary School successfully retained Thimphu School U-19 Girls Trophy after they beat Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School by 6 wickets. Yangchephug after winning the toss elected to bat first, Devika and Sonam Choden the fast bowler lead the attack for the Dechencholing School after they got both the opener Rinchen Wangmo and Karma Wangmo back to pavilion with score of 2 and 0 respectively, with the fall of another wicket in 3rd overs, Yangchenphug batsmen were forced on back foot and giving Dechencholing bowler extra bit of energy, Sonam Lhamo and Nima Zangmo shared a good 5th wicket partnership between them with 30 runs as they carved the bowler for singles and playing some good shot.

Drugyel Lower Secondary School With Winner Trophy as Chief Guest Tashi Applauds

Drugyel Lower Secondary School became the first school to lift the School Cricket Championship trophy after they beat Khangkhu M.S.School by 8 wickets today in the class 5 & 6 Category played in Rinpung Ground. The school tournament came late into paro but the Spirit and Enthusiasm shown by the school kids is immense, there were buzz amongst the players as they walk into the filed to do fielding and batting, some played sensible while other just gave a good try to have some kind of appreciation from their team mates and teacher.

School Cricket Final Tomorrow

Thimphu: Under-19 Girls Tournament has reach to final showdown between Dechencholing Middle Secondary School and Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School. The Defending Champion Dechencholing School remain Unbeaten in all the group matches they played. Yangchenphu on the other hand defeated both Lungtenzampa and Motithang School to reach to the final. The Final will be played in the Dechencholing Ground.

Thimphu School Class 5 & 6 Final Tomorrow

After three weeks of school cricket tournament, class 5 & 6 final will be played tomorrow in Dechencholing Ground where Changbandu Primary School Takes on Changangkha Lower Secondary School. The School will be represented by their teachers and it should be a good match, come tomorrow. In the Under-19 girls tournament, last years runner’s up Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School and Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School Tomorrow Afternoon and on 4th May, Defending Champion Dechencholing Middle Secondary Takes on Motithang Higher Secondary School, after the league round, top two team who finishes first and 2nd will play final. Dechencholing School and Yangchenphug School have one win each and Motithang and Lungtenzampa are yet to win a match.

Thimphu School Cricket : Week 3

In a dramatic second semi-final between Changbamndu School and Dechencholing, Changbandu skipper, Sonam Darjay blistering knock of 119 not out, the first century of the tournament, entertained the crowd with 6 sixes and 10 fours, after his team won the toss he choose to bat in the morning when there are no winds blowing and ball coming to bat. After the opener departed cheaply by the accurate bowling from dechencholing school opener Karma Jimba and kesang wangchuk, at first Sonam Darjay had tough time playing his stroke with both dechecholing opener bowling wicket to wicket, later on when new bowler were introduced, Sonam Darjay made full use of their poor line and length, his batting swing was just perfect for the 20 overs match. He along with Tandin Wangdi added 134 runs for third wickt partnership.

Changbandu made 165 in their complete 20 overs innings and setting a massive total for Dechencholing School. Dechencholing in reply couldn’t handle Sonam Darjay who after his brilliant knock of 119 fired up with three wicket in his first overs to show that he is an all round cricket. Dechencholing Boys just couldn’t handle the pressure and wicket tumble from both end with Sonam Jigme operating from other end to take two wicket. Dechencholing School were all out for 25 runs in 8 overs, Sonam Darjay picked up 4 wicket for 9 runs and Sonam Jigme took 2 wickets for 5 runs. Fielding has been the excellent from the Changbandu Boys and taking catches and few run out.

Thimphu School Cricket : Week 3

Changangkha B after their brilliant performance in the filed came home comfortable to book a place in the Class 5 & 6 Final. Batting first, Lungtenphu B Bastmen were stunned by superb athleticism from Changangkha players to send 5 batsmen run out and some good catch by wicket keeper. Lungtenphu players couldn’t resist in playing shot which would have been called wide by the umpire had they left it alone but it cost them wicket, lungtenphu were all out for 51 runs in 9 overs. Kinley Tobden took three 3 for 8 runs.

Changankha B started their inning with shaky as their opening batsmen was Golden Out by lungtenphu opener Sherub, he took another wicket in the same over to put extra pressure to incoming bastmen, at 14 runs on the board Changankha has lost 4 wicket thanks to their good line and length maintain by the skipper Karma Gyeltshen and Sherub. Karma the match winner for the Changankha stayed clam and hit one 6 and three fours and adding unbeaten 26 partnership with Saroj Gurung who matched karma in hitting a six as well. Karma Gyeltshen hit winning runs to seal victory for Changankha B school team.

Tomorrow, Changbandu School will take on Dechencholing School in other semi-final of the tournament.

Changangkha B team has the best day in the field after their Team A disappointment departure in the first match against Loseling Lower Secondary School played on Saturday. Changangkha opening bowlers Dechen Lhendup and Tandin Tshering struggled at the Beginning when Lungtenphug Batsmens hit them for four and seems that they will past 100 plus runs at that moment. But the bowlers came strong to take full control and wicket started to tumble every after overs. Tandin Tshering was the peak of bowler taking 6 wickets.

Lungtenzampa are under-19 School Champion

Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary Became the champion of the Under-19 Thimphu School Tournament after defeating Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School by 7 runs in a high tension Match. The Match was reduced to 20 overs per side after a heavy rain the morning caused the match to be delayed by one hour.
