Under - 19 Women’s Starts Coaching Camp

U-19_WomensThimphu : Bhutan’s U19 women’s national team has already started preparing in Thimphu for the forthcoming ACC U19 Women’s Challenge Cup to be held in Singapore next year with the supervision of Mr. D S Gurung, National Youth Coach along with other local coaches. Eight weeks programme have been set as a trail camp for selection of 20 women’s cricketers and also as a modification of techniques on cricket fundamentals which will be monitored by the local coaches but gradually the training will go intense said the national coach. Bhutanese women’s have already showed their ability of playing cricket in the international arena by ranking 6 position in the ACC U19 Women’s Challenge Cup in Chiangmai, Thailand 2008 and 8th position in ACC T20 Women’s Championship in Malaysia this year. Bhutan the only team in ACC competitions were players are aging from 13 -16 years and have won 5 matches in two competitions.

When we first played in ACC U19 most of the players from other countries were elder and experience than us but after winning few matches we know it is all about preparation not the age, said the captain Pema. Cricket amongst girls has just been 2 years but the interest is growing faster. BCCB conducting U19 women’s school campionship every year but this year because of the interest showed by girls BCCB has also conducted U16 school tournament in Thimphu and Sarpang districts to increase the numbers in playing and also to give opportunity to those willing to play cricket.

Most of the girls sacrifices their winter vacation for trail camp which will go on to the end of January 2010. This is something what we are looking for and we are ready to work hard, said local coach Sonam Tobgay. Bhutan aim to be the no.1 women’s team in ACC ranking in near future with the procedures they have set to become; however due to lack of facilities it might take time but the interest among girls will stay alive.

U16 Boy’s National Team Trail camp will be commencing from 19th of December 2009 in Thimphu under the guidance of Coach Tshering Dorji, Ugyen Dorji and Tobgay Wangchuk. Bhutan in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 8

ACCDiv8LogoBhutan earned a step uphill in the world of cricket as they were given a berth in the World Cricket league division 8 where they along with Kuwait earned their places by virtue of being the two countries in the top ten of the senior 50-over tournament, the next ACC Trophy, scheduled for April 2010, that haven’t yet played in the World Cricket League. Both the countries are the ACC participants in the eight-team event WCL 8 event.

Signs of developing cricket’s greater expansion comes with news that Kuwait will host the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 8 in December 2010. The World Cricket League structure sets the pathway for more countries to qualify for World Cup 2015. World Cup 2011 had five divisional qualifiers for global Associates and Affiliates to join the top-most teams. (more…)

Thimphu School Kids Celebrates the ICC Centenary Year

Thimphu : Bhutan cricket joins ICC and other Cricketing Members of the world in celebrating the 100 years of cricket (Centenary Year). To commemorate this auspicious occasion bhutan cricket today organized an cricket carnival in changlimithang ground where about 300 plus kids both girls and boys and teachers from various school attended the celebration. Bhutan cricket Chief Executive officer, Development Officer, Coaches, Senior National players, Under-19 National Players and Women’s National players were also been part of the celebration where they had fun cricket session with the school kids. Under-19 Elite Preparation for World Cup Qualifying

Bhutan has started preparing for the under-19 Elite which is related to qualifying round for under-19 world cup to be played in Kuwait this coming April. 22 probables players has been in Thimphu for selection camp which has started from 2nd February 2009 and will continue till the end of March. All the players have an experience playing in International tournament organized by Asian Cricket Council. the camp will be competitive as everyone is working hard to be in the final fourteen list. With success in every ACC Challenge tournament played within two years, the time has come for the young team to perform well. It would be an dream for the players and official if they qualify for the under-19 World Cup where they will get an opportunity to play against the test playing nation and top teams across the globe.

Ugyen Academy Twenty 20 Concludes Yesterday

The Ugyen Academy Twenty 20 Coronation Cup Concluded yesterday, Roger Binny the Asian Cricket Council development Officer was the Chief Guest for the Finale Match played between Yeedzin Cricket Club and CNR (College of Natural Resource). Yeedzin Cricket Club won the Final by 4 Wickets. CNR Batting first made a comparative total of 110 with 80 extras conceded by Yeedzin Cricket Club. In reply to their total Yeedzin reached the target in 14 overs after a blistering start from the Openers and a match winning performance by Skipper Phuntsho Wangdi who hit massive 3 Sixes in a Over, already he scalped 4 CNR wickets while fielding.

A Total of 5 Team participated in the Tournament. During the prize distribution ceremony, Roger Binny said that he is Impressed with the growing popularity of the cricket in Bhutan as he said that he saw few kids with wooden bats and ball playing along the roadside. He also Mention that Bhutan Cricket would grow into a better cricketing team in the near future to compete with the best Associate members of the Asian cricket Council.

Roger Binny on Country Assignment

Asian cricket Council Development Officer Mr Roger Binny is on 5 Days Visit to Bhutan for Country Development assignment, during his stay in Bhutan, Roger Binny will be holding coaching development session with the Bhutan under-19 Women’s Team. He will be also discussing the Program and other Cricket Related matter with the Board official.

On Sunday, Roger Binny will be in Punkaha district to witness the Final of UA Twenty 20 Final.

Private School To Starts Twenty 20 Tournament

Ugyen Academy a Private School in Punakha District which is about 80 KM from The Capital Thimphu and in association with Bhutan Cricket Council Board will be organizing the Twenty20 Tournament which will kick off on 7th September 2008. The Tournament is Known as “UA Twenty20 Cornonation Cup“. 5 Teams will be participating with a Team from The Board representing Bhutan cricket. The matches will be played in the School Football Ground on Coir Matting. Umpires will be provided by Bhutan Cricket Council Board.

Boys Tournament Underway in Thimphu

The Boys Tournament has already started in Thimphu for Junior Category and Sub Junior Category where Junior Category include Class 7 and Class 8 Student Where as Sub Junior Category Includes Class 4 to Class 6 Student. Eight School are Participating in the Tournament and are played every Saturday and Sunday in Dechencholing Ground.

Changangkha Lower Secondary School and Dechencholing School Meet in the First Semi Final After Changangkha Lower Secondary Defeated Zilukha Lower Secondary School Yesterday. Changbandu Lower Secondary Sub Junior Team Advanced to Semi Final after defeating Loseling Lower Secondary School.

Roger Binny Imparts Cricket Skills to Thimphu School Girls

Roger Binny conducted a coaching session during his latest visit as the country development officer but it was a different session from all previous sessions and this group comprised of only girls. They were put through various drills and Roger was assisted by the local coaches in the three hour long session. Bhutan cricket has introduced women’s cricket in the districts of Thimphu and Sarpang.

Roger Binny On 5 days Visit to Bhutan
