Changbandu Too good for Young Dechencholing Boys

Thimphu School Cricket : Week 3

In a dramatic second semi-final between Changbamndu School and Dechencholing, Changbandu skipper, Sonam Darjay blistering knock of 119 not out, the first century of the tournament, entertained the crowd with 6 sixes and 10 fours, after his team won the toss he choose to bat in the morning when there are no winds blowing and ball coming to bat. After the opener departed cheaply by the accurate bowling from dechencholing school opener Karma Jimba and kesang wangchuk, at first Sonam Darjay had tough time playing his stroke with both dechecholing opener bowling wicket to wicket, later on when new bowler were introduced, Sonam Darjay made full use of their poor line and length, his batting swing was just perfect for the 20 overs match. He along with Tandin Wangdi added 134 runs for third wickt partnership.

Changbandu made 165 in their complete 20 overs innings and setting a massive total for Dechencholing School. Dechencholing in reply couldn’t handle Sonam Darjay who after his brilliant knock of 119 fired up with three wicket in his first overs to show that he is an all round cricket. Dechencholing Boys just couldn’t handle the pressure and wicket tumble from both end with Sonam Jigme operating from other end to take two wicket. Dechencholing School were all out for 25 runs in 8 overs, Sonam Darjay picked up 4 wicket for 9 runs and Sonam Jigme took 2 wickets for 5 runs. Fielding has been the excellent from the Changbandu Boys and taking catches and few run out.

Changankha B Team Wins Comfortable Against Lungtehphu B

Changangkha B after their brilliant performance in the filed came home comfortable to book a place in the Class 5 & 6 Final. Batting first, Lungtenphu B Bastmen were stunned by superb athleticism from Changangkha players to send 5 batsmen run out and some good catch by wicket keeper. Lungtenphu players couldn’t resist in playing shot which would have been called wide by the umpire had they left it alone but it cost them wicket, lungtenphu were all out for 51 runs in 9 overs. Kinley Tobden took three 3 for 8 runs.

Changankha B started their inning with shaky as their opening batsmen was Golden Out by lungtenphu opener Sherub, he took another wicket in the same over to put extra pressure to incoming bastmen, at 14 runs on the board Changankha has lost 4 wicket thanks to their good line and length maintain by the skipper Karma Gyeltshen and Sherub. Karma the match winner for the Changankha stayed clam and hit one 6 and three fours and adding unbeaten 26 partnership with Saroj Gurung who matched karma in hitting a six as well. Karma Gyeltshen hit winning runs to seal victory for Changankha B school team.

Tomorrow, Changbandu School will take on Dechencholing School in other semi-final of the tournament.

UAE Beats Bhutan by 3 Wickets in U-19 World Cup Qualifying

Bhutan suffered yet another blow when UAE beat by 3 wickets in the ACC U-19 Elite Cup 2009 played in Unity Ground Kuwait Yesterday. Jigme Singye after his second successive toss win in the tournament choose to bat in a good batting wicket, Bhutan opener played some sensible shot in the beginning to put on a good score but UAE A. Malik has bagful of tricks to take out bhutan’s batsmen cheaply.

Sonam tobgay standing short and a good stroke player kept on pushing one and two’s to eventually matching the fast UAE bowler, his brave knock of 61 runs contains some lovely cover drive, pull shot and cut shot. Bhutan were all out for 174 in 46.2 overs, Aqib Malik was the pick of bowler for UAE with 4 for 37.

In reply to bhutan’s total, UAE achieve the target in 32.4 overs with the lost of 7 wickets. UAE A.Shukri and A.Azhar top score with 36 runs each while Thinley Jamtsho was the best bowler for bhutan taking 3 wickets for 53 runs.

Bhutan now face Oman on 26 April and Qatar on 27 April. Bhutan only hope to remain in the Elite level is to win both matches and a slight chances of staying alive in the Under-19 World Cup Qualifying.

Bhutan Lost to Afghanistan In the Opening Match of the Under-19 World Cup Qualifier

Bhutan Lost to Afghanistan Yesterday in the opening match of the ACC U-19 Elite Cup played in Sulaibiya ground, Kuwait. Bhutan after winning the toss decided to bat first and opener couldn’t make a good start, only Captain Jigme Singye put on some good resistant fight for his 23 runs which is highest score for Bhutan. The discipline bowling attack from Afghanistan boys slaughter other Bhutanese Batsmen and getting them all out for 63 runs in 19.5 overs. Afghanistan could Achieve the target in just 12.3 overs for the loss of two wickets. Sher Sherzade scored 35 while opener Mohammad Iqbal scored 21.

Bhutan Batsmen face Afghanistan Bowler in Under-19 World Cup Qualifier

Asghar Hussain and Zakiullah picked up 4 wickets each.The ACC U-19 Elite Cup is a qualifier for the ICC U-19 World Cup where the winning team will automatically qualify to play for the ICC U-19 world Cup cricket tournament this year. Hopefully Bhutan will comeback against Qatar in today’s Match and later with UAE and Oman to stay alive for the chance of Qualifying for the Under-19 World Cup 2010.

Bhutan Takes on Afghanistan Today in ACC U19 Elite Cup 2009

Bhutanese Under-19 Cricket Team will face Afghanistan in the first match of the ACC U19 Elite Cup in Sulaibiya, Kuwait Today. The Bhutanese team are determine to take on tournament favorite Afghanistan and give them a good fight. The tournament will be base on preliminarily round where they will take on UAE, Qatar and Oman later on. A win or two means that Bhutan stay alive in the Under-19 World Cup Qualifier.

Thimphu Under-19 Girls Tournament Started

Thimphu Under-19 Girls tournament started yesterday at Dechencholing Ground where defending Champion Dechecholing Middle Secondary School took on Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School. The Match was an one sided on with Dechencholing School having 8 of their players represented Bhutan in the Under-19 ACC Women’s Championship last December. having won the toss by lungtenzampa captain Arpana Rai, she asked her counterpart to bat which was an bold decision but the Dechencholing School has another idea of making the most use of their experience player.

Opening batsmen had a tough time seeing few overs from the Lungtenzampa Bolwers but wit wides in every overs and poor ball beings bowled, Dechencholing Batsmen had little difficult in negotiating and keep on pushing singles and twos. Opener Yeshi and Tshering pem could’t last long eventually being bowled by Kabita Chhetri, Choening Dema then walked in to make best use of the poor bowling from the Lungtenzampa, she played a sensible and waiting game to score an healthy 44 with Dechen Wangmo giving her partnership of 79.

Jigme Singye to Lead Under-19 Bhutan Cricket Team

Thimphu: Jigme Singye the first bhutanese player to receive the Prem International Scholarship largely due to his performance in the Under-15 Challenge Cup held in Thailand in 2006 will lead the promising Bhutanese team in the under-19 ACC Elite Cup to be held in Kuwait from 22nd April 2009. The Young and Talented Bhutan squad will be coach by Damber Singh Gurung and Tshering Dorji to be the Manger. The team will leave bhutan on 17th April.

Bhutan is Group B along side with UAE, Qatar, Afghanistan, and Oman. Our group has strong opponents with Afghanistan being stronger but we have fairly good enough fast bowler and quality batsmen to give them a good fight, said Damber Singh Gurung. It will be a dream run for the players as they are well prepared for the tournament and looking forward to win the cup and qualify for the Under-19 World Cup 2010.

Jigme N Norbu, Chief Executive Officer of Bhutan cricket said that the boys have been preparing hard and good to see a strong side with everyone putting extra effort, and as most of the boys played together for the last three years in various ACC Tournamnet and having seen them improved considerable is an big bonus for us.

“I have a lot faith in the team and we hope to bring home glory” Exclaimed Young Fast Bowler Thinley Jamtsho.

Changangkha B team has the best day in the field after their Team A disappointment departure in the first match against Loseling Lower Secondary School played on Saturday. Changangkha opening bowlers Dechen Lhendup and Tandin Tshering struggled at the Beginning when Lungtenphug Batsmens hit them for four and seems that they will past 100 plus runs at that moment. But the bowlers came strong to take full control and wicket started to tumble every after overs. Tandin Tshering was the peak of bowler taking 6 wickets.

Bhutan Joins ICC Centenary and Catch The Spirit Celebration

Thimphu School Joins Catch The Spirit Celebration
The Thimphu School Tournament for class 5 & 6 boys started today with Bhutan Cricket Council Board joing the ICC in celebrating the 100 Years of Cricket and hosting the *Catch the Spirit* event with it. The Celebration took place in Changlimithang Ground where Both Team Captains and Umpires Joins with the *Catch The Spirit* Banner and later on al the team Members pose for a group Photograph Session with Banners. This year was an important year for all the Cricketing World as ICC Celebrates it’s Centenary of Cricket (100 Years).
