School Cricket Season Started in Bhutan
Bhutan cricket Council Board Season Cricket activities for school has already begun starting March 2009 where 8 local coaches are involved in Thimphu Dzongkhag and three local coaches in Gelephu District. The school cricket has become popular among the Thimphu dzongkhag where each of the 8 coaches are assigned to look after two schools and to form various categories of school team where they will be competing with other School.

With the increase in the Contract coaches this year the involvement of youths and student has rapidly increase compared to last year and year before. In Thimphu District alone Girls Involvement has increase tremendous and the number of playing increased to more than 400 compared to last year 60. Damber Singh Gurng the Junior Coach said that with the performance of Under-19 Woman’s in the recently Concluded ACC Under-19 Women Championship in Thailand, more girls are inspire to join cricket.

Choden Junior High School has about 80 girls who wanted to learn cricket and it has become a real tough job for Coach Tobgay Wangchuk. It was an Thrilling moment to coach about 80 girls turning up for the coaching camp and out of which only 50% has either have knowledge of cricket or played little. Similar situation are in Lungtenzampa Middle Secondary School where Coach Ugyen Dorji has about 54 girls to be taught and about 35 girls in Chamgzamtok Junior High School. Dechencholing Middle Secondary has about 80+ girls playing largely due to 8 Women’s National Player from the school.

Yangchenphug Higher Secondary Coach Manoj Adhikari has around 60 Girls interested in the games and likewise Motithang Higher Secondary School and Nima Higher Secondary School has healthy Girls playing to have their own school team for the Under-19 Girls Tournament.
This Year Bhutan Cricket will introduce under-16 School Tournament where young girls from various Lower Secondary School will be participating and as such, Changzamtog Lower Secondary has about 30 Interested girls, Loselling Lower Secondary has about 40+ Girls involved in the cricket. Dechecnholing Middle Secondary has around 50 odds junior girls involved in the cricket.
The Annual School Tournament in Thimphu Dzongkhag Will be Kicked off today when class 5 & 6 Boys will battle amongst the other thimphu district Schools. 10 school has confirm participation in this tournament, later during the second half of the month, Under-19 girls tournament will be underway in Thimphu District and in Sarpang District.
