The Bhutan Cricket Twenty20 Final Between Bhutan Telecom and Friend’s United saw a scintillating starts till the last wickets of Friend’s United felt, crowd gathered during the course of match and there were cheers all around for the young and smart cricketer of Bhutan Telecom. Bhutan Telecom clinch the Champion Trophy from Friend’s United after their brilliant display in the field, they outplayed Friend’s United in batting as well as bowling restricting a good line and length. BHUTAN TELECOM WON BY 5 RUNS

The day has been an perfect for the cricket with clear sky and with Bhutan telecom the only undefeated clubs elected to bat first against Youth11 for a place in the final, Jigme singye was caught lbw early in the over with Tashi playing well on the other end, his cuts and pull were awesome to watch.

Skipper Dorji couldn’t last long when cut the ball right to the fielder, supprit join Tashi and their partnership anchored the team total of 148, Supprit support Tashi well with some Excellent lofted shot above the fence, they took on the Youth11 bowlers and keep pressure on the youth11, Tashi after a brilliant knock of 32 was caught off Raj Kumar but the damage has been done already. Shiva followed the footstep of Tashi and cracked few boundaries along with Thinley Tenzin after Suprith handful knock came to end, they added 30 odd runs in the board. FRIEND’S UNITED WON BY 40 RUNS

Friend’s United bounce back after their defeat from Bhutan Telecom yesterday in the league match, they now will play again in the Final on 28^th January as Friend’s United and Bhutan Telecom made through the Final of the Bhutan Cricket Twenty20 Tournament.

The Semi Final Berth took place today in the Changlimithang Cricket Ground as group a winner Kanglung Hiflier took on Group B runner’s up Friend’s United. Kanglung after winning the toss sent Friend’s United to Bat first in Bright sun, their decision didn’t paid off as Friend’s United Opening Batsmen Tshering Dorji and Tshering Tashi Started off in style, cracking boundaries and unbeaten 100 runs partnership between them, Both the Batsmen played superbly taking singles and Putting Pressure to the Kanglung Hiflier, Skipper Lobzang Younten suffered an swollen lumps after an brutal diving effort to save two runs which forced him to go to hospital. Friend’s United Jinx were broken by Bhutan Telecom as the match turn out to be an Exciting when Bhutan telecom after winning the toss elected to Bat first in Cold Weather, their opening batsmen started well with Tashi and Jigme singye giving the Friend’s United bowler run for their money, with extras coming as if it was an compulsory for the bowler to bowl, their break through came in second overs as Tashi knick Ugyen Dorji to be caught by wicketkeeper diving to his right.

At the end of 4 overs Bhutan Telcom were 44 for lose of one wickets with extras helping the total as well. Drop catches on regulation basic couldn’t help the Friend’s united bowler confidence when Jigme Singye was drop on 11 to hit 47 runs, 3 runs shy from an well deserve half century, his batting showed all the experience he has as the First Under-15 National Team Skipper which were runner ups in the Last ACC U-15 Challenge cup held in Thailand, the quality of his innings with beautiful cover drive and his favorites pull shots send Friend’s United Bowlers all over the park, skipper Dorji added valuable runs and supported Jigme singye at other end, when he was run out after making 14 runs, supprit fired some big shots and so does shiva, Bhutan telecom made 152 in their allocated 20 overs. As the determine Drupchu11 walk into to bat first after winning the toss, their determined opening batsmen made a good start in the beginning as sherab and karma took on the the giant lobzang younten, hitting good shot all over the park, Kanglung Hiflier couldn’t control the extras as they conceded far more extras than the run from the bat, karma batted brilliantly and crafted a well deserved 34 runs along with sherab 18 runs.

Their opening partnership took the team total to 90 runs, with the good start and extras from the bowler, it look like Drupchu11 will be past 140 runs on the board. Kanglung hiflier brought in wicketkeeper Monaj Adhikari for the break through as he did exactly what the Skipper wants, he got shearb caught by ugyen and a brilliant run out by Nandu to dismiss karma brought down the run rates way down. The Afternoon match between Bhutan Telecom and Druk11 saw some new record as Bhutan Telecom’s Thinley Tenzin takes hat-trick and become first bowler to take hat-trick in twenty20 Tournament. Bhutan Telecom after winning the toss elected to bat in cold conditions as the suns hides behind the could making it harder for the players in the field. Opener Tashi and Jigme singye made good start as both the batsmen attack the opening bowler Dilip Kumar Subba and Bikash Gurung, Jigme Singye took charge on Dilip subba pulling and hooking over Mid Wickets for runs.

Dilip Subba came back strongly in his second over to remove danger batsmen Tashi who was on having tough time making only 6 of 13 balls, Dorji The telecom Skipper walk in to join the party with Jigme singye as he crafted the ball into third man region for easy two runs on several occasion and few beautiful cover drive on his way to 18 runs, the highest scorer for the team. Jigme Departed shortly when Dilip Subba edged him for a fine catch by wicket keeper. There were far more extras bowled by Bowler as the Wides Marking was bit closer which gave the bowler much disadvantage.

Rest of the Telecom batsmen couldn’t contribute much runs except from chencho who scored 9 runs along with the tail enders, Skipper Ashish lead by example as he wrap up the Telecom Tail enders and bowled them out for 120 runs, he bagged 3 wickets. (more…)

The Morning match between Kanglung Hiflier and Youth11 saw some dramatic cricket on the field, as Kanglung Hiflier after winning the toss send Youth11 to Bat First in dew condition, Youth11 with full of confidence after their victory over Drupchu 11 in the opening match of Twenty20. Kanglung Hiflier the only team from Eastern Bhutan, There were early Trouble for the Youth11 as Kanglung opening Bowler with Captain Lobzang himself operating from City Bus end, he gave the first break through in his first overs as he trapped Subash LBW, he stand 6 feet4 inches which gave him the extra bounce and Pace as he destroyed the top order batsmen of Youth11 finishing with 4 wickets in his spell, but he far gave away too many wides which added to the youth11 scoreboard.

Apparently his Younger Brother Ugyen Tshedia bagged 4 wickets at the end. Their fielding was at the peak with the likes of Sonam Tobgay and Bikash Gurung in the Side, sonam Tobgay showed why he is best fielder when he caught kamal diving forward.
All Youth11 Batsmen struggled from the beginning when pace attack were in full swing, Ganga stand tall and bold when he gave Youth11 something to breath with 29, his innings of 29 gave crowd something to cheers when he hit 3 consecutive boundary of sonam tobgay balls. The Afternoon Match Between Friend’s United and Druk 11Saw some blistering hits from friend’s united opening Batsmen in Tshering Tashi and Tshering Dorji as they devastated the bowler all over the park, apparently Tshering Tashi who works the balls for one and twos showed some maturity in his batting as he hit some beautiful cover drive and few hook shot, at the end of 5th overs, the runs on the board was 40 plus. Druk 11 Bowler bowled with their heart out but fielding didn’t backed them as catches were put down several occasion which cost them the match dearly.

The fielding was brilliant from the young guns of Druk11 who most of the players were the national squad which represented in the ACC U-15 Challenge Cup In Thailand. Druk11 Bowler Nar Bahadur got the first break through when Tshering Dorji was caught in gully, his knock of 25 was vital in the opening stand with Tshering Tashi who top score with 35 runs. Tobgay Wangchuk scored 14 runs and Dasho Thinley Wangchuk Dorje with 14 runs,Friend’s United Made 136 runs.

The Inaugural Bhutan Cricket Twenty20 match saw some exciting cricket matches with full ground commentary and music system, Youth11 took on Druphu11 who came all the way from Phuntsholing in the morning match, youth11 after winning toss elected to bat first in dew condition, their starts of inning was not up to the mark when wicket feel cheaply in the second overs.

Druphu11 bowlers couldn’t control extras when they conceded too many wides which cost them the match dearly, upon coming from hot weather in Phuntsholing and adapting in the cold weather of Thimphu, they certainly couldn’t get their things going. Youth11 Captain craftiest his inning with confidence and control as he snared past all the Drupchu fielders, catches were put down on several occasion when things were going well for them, their fielding was outstanding throughout the match with two brilliant run outs. Youth11 made 149 runs in their allocated 20 overs.Hemraj Subba bagged 3 wickets for 25 runs. (more…)

As the Weather in Thimphu goes into Minus early Morning and late evening, cricket Enthusiastic of Bhutan are overwhelmed that Twenty20 tournament will commence on the 13th January 2007 in Thimphu District, all the Matches will be played in the Thimphu cricket Ground. Six Team are participating with two new team from Phuntsholing and Kanglung, As schools are on winter break, lot’s of young student are taking part in the tournament which makes about 80% of the Total playing. The Tournament will feature the commentary team and music system with the alike of International Twenty20 Matches.

The team are divided into two groups, Group A and Group B,The Tournament will feature 9 matches with two matches daily basis, all the team will be playing preliminary round, top two teams goes into semi final and will meet with other group in semi final, The final match will be played on 27th January 2007.
